Textiles by Pascale Gueracague for Helmut Lang

Hello Summer

In Textiles + Textures by Cinnamon McCullum

When I was a kid and it was insanely hot out, my Mother would say “Think of ice cubes.”  Bless her heart. These day the thermostat gets way up there and takes the humidity along for the ride, so I need to try my own mind-over-matter.

What works for me is to daydream of turtleneck sweaters, wool coats, boots and that crisp breeze that makes your eyes water a little. Oh, cool sweet Fall, how I adore thee. Aside from the weather and wardrobe, I also adore the Fall/Winter shows with all their scrumptious knit, textile, and fiber goodness. Just this afternoon I found myself reviewing a select few 2013 shows, lingering on the pieces I like best.

Pascale Gueracague has created textiles for Helmut Lang for the last seven years. Her work is graphic, bold and sophisticated, transforming the simple lines of a Helmut Lang design and giving it weight. Her Spring/Summer and Resort is always great, what I find really divine are her heavier pieces, such as her work for the F/W 2013 show. The black and white graphic pantsuit caught my eye, but my top choice is the black fil coupe sheath dress.  There is a lot going on with the leather and texture and sheer panels, but it all comes together smoothly.

There, now I am as cool as a cucumber! Works every time.
