The Work of Inge Jacobsen

In Embroidery by Cinnamon McCullum

Known for her series of reworked magazine covers featuring the likes of Beyoncé and Natalia Vodianova, Inge Jacobsen’s vision is not as simple as some would think. Using embroidery and  cross stitch, and applying it to the fairly delicate paper pages of publications – she adds texture and distortion to a flat image.  By creating a beautiful Frankenstein with a replaced eyebrow and overly plump lips or weaving together two sexually charged scenes, ideas of beauty and objectification are questioned.  Also, if you look at the back of some of  Jacobsen’s work, you’ll get a bonus abstract prize.
