Flora and Fantastical – Embroidery by James Merry

In Embroidery by Cinnamon McCullum

I love it when creatives come out of the woodwork and wow the masses with handmade ingenuity. James Merry is one of those creatives and there was a fair amount  of buzz about him this past summer. As the story goes, after working with Damien Hirst, James later worked with Bjork with whom he collaborated with on a number things including a slew of embroidered headpieces.  He also created a series where he would take well known company logos and transform them by adding a flower with delicate roots growing over of the NIKE swoosh, or a mushroom towering over the F in FILA. It was a homage of sorts to his home in Iceland when he found himself living in the steel and concrete of New York City.

He posted a teaser of some newness carrying over the botanical theme on Instagram recently, and I’m looking forward to hearing more.

What do you think of his work?
